Selection of photos for digipak

Selection of photos for digipak

I have chosen a few photos for the digipak which I will take into consideration for creating the digipak. I will use this photos to show what genre the band is. I will use the photos taken from the music video. I will make the digipak the same theme of the music video(poker themed). These are some of the pictures I will use.
I will use this photo in the digipak because it shows the main protagonist looking at his opponent. this would be good to have on the right hand side of the digipak.

This image will also be good because the character is also looking at the other opponent. This means i can have both characters on either side of the digipak.

I might place this image on the back of the digipak to show the main theme of the digipak.

These last two photos will be used for either where the CD will go or use as thee front cover photo.

Editing

Editing

The editing process lasted over a few days. In this we used Ashley's macbook to do the editing. The editing proved to be more difficult than we first thought. It was more difficult because some of the shots did not fit with the tempo of the music so we had to replace some of the shots to fit. It was also difficult to get the shots and timing to fit in time with the music. We all had a go at editing the film but our main editor was Ashley

But we did this at the end once we got continuity with the video itself. As we were editing we realised that different shots could work to improve the scene. So we went back and filmed different shots to help it fit with the video. An example of this would be the shot which links with my backstory. We filmed this shot to try and get it parallel with the linking shot of Ashley's backstory.

Music Industry- Digipak Research

Music Industry- Digipak Research

Why have digipaks?

Main people buy the digipaks rather than the normal CD's to by in a sense 'close' to the band or artist. Buying a limited edition digipak would also give you more rather than a normal CD. Some people chose a digipak because they look better than a normal jewel cases. With the digipak many artists can be more creative with the design because they have more options. But because a digipak is normally made out of cardboard it can be damaged easier then the normal jewel cases.

Why did digipaks come about

Digipaks came about when digital download got increasingly popular. Digipaks were created to give more to the audience but also to challenge to rapidly growing digital download and streaming. One example of a music streaming service would be Spotify. The digipaks gives things like commentary and other perks which are not available on streaming websites.

Digipak Audience research

Digipak Audience research

For my digipak audience research have asked 5 people a small questionnaire. I asked them

The questions I asked them were

  1. What would you say are the most important features of a digipak?

2. What price you pay for a digipak?

3. Do you think that digipaks are becoming out of date?

I then ask the people why do they think that the digipaks are becoming out of date.

One of the answers stated that because streaming music has become so popular over the past few years, the digipak has become less popular showing that it is becoming out of date.

Analysis of The Black Keys Digipak

Analysis of The Black Keys Digipak

This is The Black Keys 'El Camino' digipak. This digipak has a simple design on each section. On each section they have placed a picture of the car the 'El Camino'. They have put a different one on each cover. Inside the digipak they have put the CD on the right side and a small booklet with information about the band and the lyrics to the song on the left side. On every picture they have put a vintage tint over the image to give it a nostalgic feel the digipak. Each car is in the same position as all the others. The cover its self does not give anything away about the genre of the music but in doing this it has created an enigma about what this album includes. They also have the name of the band and the name of the album at the top of the digipak in a simple font.

Analysis of Gorillaz digipak

Analysis of Gorillaz digipak

The Gorillaz digipak has a unique style. It is a 10 sided digipak and has a different style to most other digipaks would normal have a 6 sided digipak and not include the sides on the top and bottom. In this digipak they use a simple but effective style. For this digipak they use all the groups animated characters for the covers. All the characters are looking to the right hand side. All the four characters and surrounding the main CD in the centre. The characters are on a simple white background, this shows that they and the centre of the digipak. On the other side of the digipak they have the same character but doing something different to the one on the opposite side.

Analysis of Oasis digipak

Analysis of Oasis digipak

This is a 6 panel digipak case and is created by the band Oasis. The front page of this digipak includes a picture of a guitar leading against a wall. This is a very simple design but it draws the attention of the audience. This pictures shows the audience what the album is going to be about. Just underneath the guitar the name of the album and the band name. On the inside of the digipak the CD for the band is on the right hand side rather than the middle which many bands use. On the back of the digipak they have the list of the songs on back of the digipak.

Filming log #3

The third day of filming

On the third day of filming got the opening shot, both the backstory of both the main characters and finished off some shots of the heads up game. We had planned to wait for dusk to film outside shots to fit the mise-en-scene. the outside shots were both the opening and closing shots of the music video. We filmed both at a similar time but filmed them 15 minutes apart to it would look like time has passed once Ashley left the poker game.

Both of the backstories didn't take long to film because we already had the shots laid out in the shot list and there was only a few shots needed.

This was the final day of filming and we have finished all the allocated shots in the storyboard plus others that we thought work while we were filming

What Is a Digipak

What Is a Digipak?

A digipak is a limited edition package for CD's. They replace the typical jewel case in methods of packaging. The digipak was created around the 2000's. The typical digipak will have 6 sides and one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD. The digipak was the first alternative to jewel cases to be used by most major record companies. The digipak offers more to the audience than normal CD's. For example it can add bonus features such as pictures of the band and commentary's. This can lead to more people buying the digipak.

Some of the advantages of having a digipak would be that it brings sentimental value to the consumers. A digipak will be more creative due to it being able to have more sides.  Digipaks are now more common and more popular than the normal jewelled CD's.

Filming Log #2

Second day of filming

The second day of filming we concentrated on the 'heads up' game between the two main characters. We only needed me, Ashley and Harry during the filming of these parts because in the narrative the other two characters go knocked out of the game. While filming this we had to keep our chip stacks in the same place to keep continuity. For example when Ashley moves in we had to keep the chips in the same place.

We also had to keep the cards which would come over in the same position to  make it easier to film. The layout of the cards on the right.
While filming this we realised that different shots could work at different angles so we used changed and replaced shots to make the whole video fit together.
We also did the montage shots and the opening scene of the poker table on this day.

Filmmaking Log #1

Filmmaking Log #1

The first day of filming we decided to do the time lapse shot first because it is the longest shot and it contains all of us to film. The time lapse we filmed was 1 and a half hour long and was a key shot in our music video. We set up the camera in the corner of the room in a certain way to fit all of us into frame. We changed the lighting of the room to make it have a 'back alley' poker theme. When we were filming we were just playing poker but near the end The two side players had to leave for the time lapse to keep continuity.  We couldn't do any more shots after the time lapse due to the SD card on the camera being full.

Costumes for the characters

Costumes for the characters

For the costumes we dress in different clothes which would represent our character. These costumes are key for our character development in our music video narrative. They display our place and personality in the narrative.

I am playing the antagonist in the music video. I have to display the character as being a 'sinister' character. to display this I have dressed in dark clothing to represent an antagonist character. We tried to get this character to look like someone who plays poker professional.  On the right is a close example on how to tried to get the character to look like.

The main protagonist was played by ashley we decided that he has to dress untidy to show that his character has a backstory. His backstory would be that he has debt issues and has turned to gambling as a resort to his problems. These problems are display in his costume showing that he has bigger worries than how he is dressed. This can also link to his money situation because of his debt problems he cannot spend money on new clothes. He is in a white shirt to show that he is the protagonist

Harry plays the dealer in the music video. He is dressed professionally to show he wasn't a player in the game but just the dealer. He is a side character during the video.

The two other side characters were Tom and Kerian. They aren't dressed in anything to make them stand out because we want the focus to be on the two main characters. These two characters are put in as casual poker players and have nothing depending  on them winning the game.
